The Institute of European Studies of Macau with CREATIVE MACAU – Center for Creative Industries launched on 16th March 2021 the call for submission of works for the international short film competition SHORTS and the international music video competition VOLUME.
The MACAU INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL / 澳門國際短片影展 / FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CURTAS DE MACAU is organizing its XII edition to be held from 2nd to 9th December 2021 in Macau. It is a worldwide audio-visual annual FESTIVAL, aiming to foster collaboration in international and local short film productions to compete in Macau. The FESTIVAL will exhibit the finalist films in Fiction, Documentary and Animation, and the finalist Music Videos to the public. These finalist films and music videos were selected by international juries, resulting in lists named “Official Selection” SHORTS and VOLUME
FESTIVAL‘s mission is to provide international filmmakers with a platform to exchange professional and creative experiences with their Macao peers. The FESTIVAL brings the most recent and innovative local and international short films to Macau, produced between 1st January 2020 to 16th June 2021. The FESTIVAL also features the latest local and international music videos, produced from 1st January 2020 to 20th July 2021. Each submitted music video is mandatory for the song included to be from a Macau band.
The submission period for SHORTS is from 16th March to 16th June, and for VOLUME is from 16th March to 20th July 2021.
This FESTIVAL has achieved enormous success with the organizers, team, support entities, and the audience’s efforts. The remarkable result could only be possible with the perception of various entities – the Macau government, award’s sponsors, media and partners. Together we work for Macau sharing quality, promoting the film industry in Macau and abroad.
As a consequence of the pandemic, the actual global situation has ruined the economic map in all countries, and resources are reallocated to combat it. As expected in this extraordinary context, support for culture and the film industry has dramatically declined internationally. Nevertheless, we foresee the number of submissions of SHORTS and VOLUME competitions approximates to 2020. If so, it will allow us to include excellent films in the 2021 FESTIVAL program. Despite the pandemic’s hit last year, the FESTIVAL received 4,232 short films and music videos. Among these large numbers, 169 outstanding works were screened.
In thinking of the themes’ diversity in advance, the FESTIVAL program expands, including the invitation to screen interesting films by local or international directors, Masterclasses and conversations with directors, enriching everyone’s knowledge by sharing their expertise and hints on the creation process.
